The Show For Service Pros

By Scott Webb
March 2010
A preview of the Western Pool and Spa Show in Long Beach, Calif.

Of the three main segments of our industry — building, retailing and service — it's been the latter of these, the maintainers of pools and spas, that have fared best in the last couple of years.

That economic strength is reflected in the continued vitality of the Western Pool and Spa Show, now in its 32nd year. For over three decades, service professionals from California and across the nation have been flocking to the shores of the Pacific at Long Beach to get hands-on training in the care and upkeep of pumps, heaters and filters, as well as the latest products and ideas on water maintenance.

There are a number of reasons for the show's consistent success. It's in a beautiful location, and well placed on the calendar. But affordability and a comprehensive seminar schedule are at the heart of the event.

A single registration fee ($60 in advance, $70 on site) allows attendees admittance to a wide breadth of classes, available over the course of the three-day event. And admittance to the exhibition hall for service professionals is free.

Meanwhile, in terms of education, there's something here for everyone in the pool and spa service business, from those just starting out in the trade to seasoned veterans looking for new tools, software and business management ideas.

In addition to classes, this year's show will offer exhibits from over 100 service-oriented companies and organizations. Amid the aisles of the Long Beach Convention Center, you're sure to find products that will make your business more efficient and profitable.
