While the backyard as a mini-resort may no longer be an uncommon concept, it is rare to find a backyard poolscape that truly resembles the type of setting you'd find at a posh resort. But this residential project in Jupiter, Fla., does — and that's exactly what the homeowners wanted.
Built by The Pool Professionals, also in Jupiter, these two pools are visually connected by a vanishing edge capped with a bridge. The interior of both pools and the island spa is finished with : -inch square iridium-glass mosaic tile that's $75 a square foot installed. "And there was about 4,500 square feet to cover," says builder Colin VanCampen. "But it's just beautiful. In fact, I'm getting calls from all around the southeast here. People want to know: 'What is the finish in that pool?'"
Polished river rock highlights the project's beautiful edge treatments in many spots. "Creating the pool perimeters was a pretty involved process," says VanCampen, "since they were either vanishing edges or European overflow gutter edges."
The $80,000, 20-foot-high radiused trellis features dense palopi wood from South America. The trellis and privacy wall dotted with 17 scuppers had to be part of the project, says VanCampen, because the homeowner insisted on having a pool where he could bathe au naturel. "There's a golf course behind the pool and he actually had his wife go out on the green to make sure the wall was high enough."
It took The Pool Professionals about seven months to complete the pools and spa. "We worked our butts off," says VanCampen. "But the best part about this whole project is he absolutely loves it. He's in it all the time."
