Many fresh and novel products will be on display at this year’s PSP show in New Orleans, along with something else that’s new: genuine anticipation of improved prospects for the pool and spa industry.
These buoyant expectations can be seen in an exhibitor lineup that is up a full 20 percent, and includes major manufacturers such as Pentair, Hayward, Zodiac, Waterway Plastics and BioGuard, as well as spa companies such as Caldera/Watkins, L. A. Spas, Coast, Clearwater and Bullfrog.
Adding to the excitement is the promise of new culinary and cultural adventures in a host city steeped in history and southern charm, quite distinct from Las Vegas, the usual show venue.
New Orleans is known for its fascinating French Creole architecture, as well as its Cajun cuisine, music (it’s the birthplace of jazz) and festivals, most notably Mardi Gras. In short, NOLA knows how to kick back and have a good time, and when the Expo shuts down for the night, the city will be ready to show 10,000 conventioneers why they call it “the big easy.”
As you venture out into the night, consider bringing a jacket. Yes, it’s the Deep South, but according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), while the average high temperature in November is 71 degrees, the average low is 51. So if you plan on staying out into wee hours or attending some of the early morning seminars, you’ll need an extra layer.
One last thing: If you haven’t before, don’t forget to sample the “beignets“ for breakfast — they’re little square-shaped fried pastries that could perhaps be called “French doughnuts,” although it’s a bit of a stretch. Have a Muffuletta sandwich for lunch and indulge yourself in boiled crawfish, seafood étouffée, or maybe some jambalaya for dinner. You never know when you’ll see NOLA again.
