Andrew Tournas, president of ThermoSpas and newly appointed president of the International Hot Tub Association (IHTA) announced the group's formation "to work solely on behalf of the spa industry across the globe."
According to a press release, the group plans to "work with ANSI (American National Standards Institute) and UL (Underwriter's Laboratory) to develop standards for the industry that will serve the U.S. and abroad."
Along with Tournas, initial incorporators include Mike Dunn and Steve Hammock of Watkins Manufacturing, Sue Sousa of Sun Star, Howard Smith of Pleatco and Cindi Magray of Spa Manufacturers.
IHTA entered into an initial four-month management contract with Visioneering Consultants Inc., according to VCI’s Mitch Brooks. VCI currently manages the National Plasterers' Council.
