We are honored to announce that Hachik is joining the Wholesale Independent National Distribution Organization under President Nanette Zakian. Hachik will be the 23rd member company to join WINDO, a collective of independently owned wholesale distributors located in the United States and Canada.
Hachik has been in business for over 90 years and is headquartered in the Philadelphia area. There is also a branch in Maryland.
“Joining WINDO ensures that we will be competitive as an independent distributor,” Zakian says. “I believe the members of WINDO are among the very best distributors in our industry and have very similar values to Hachik. Our focus is on our customer’s success, and that seems to be common with the members that we have met.”
Hachik was started in 1923 by Zakian’s grandfather, Gerabad Hachikian. He was a former chemist who began selling chlorine bleach to people in Philadelphia. His son, Vahe Hachikian, soon joined the company, and they created Hachik Distributors. In the 1950s, Hachikian noticed that swimming pools were becoming popular and decided to pursue working in that industry.
In the 1980s, Zakian began working for the company. When she was 28, her father, Vahe Hachikian, was diagnosed with terminal cancer, and she was made president. Under her leadership, the company has seen tremendous growth in distribution, a major online presence and the continuation of brick-and-mortar stores — to name a few successes.
