New Chemical Manufacturer to Sell Directly to Brick-and-Mortar RetailersA new specialty chemical manufacturer has entered the swimming pool and spa industry. And unlike most chemical manufacturers that sell products through distribution, Spec Chem Direct, based in Kent, Wash., will sell its products directly to brick-and-mortar dealers.  

The company was founded by several industry veterans with over 35 years of combined experience who realized most brick-and-mortar dealers make little or no profit on chemicals.

“After the manufacturers and distributors get their cut, there is little money left for the pool professional,” says Lance Pettyjohn, territory sales manager for the West and Southwest of the US. The company says it will save pool professionals anywhere from 25 to 60 percent on the cost of basic specialty chemicals.

“Our goal is to tailor programs specifically to dealers and service professionals so they can start making money on chemicals once again,” says George Goodman, sales manager for the Northeast and Midwest. “We don’t want brick and mortar pool and spa retailers to become obsolete — they are the backbone of our industry. “

DeltaUV Hires New Sales ManagerDeltaUV, a North American manufacturer of ultraviolet technology, is pleased to announce it hired Dan Tillman to the position of Eastern Regional Sales Manager. Tillman is responsible for commercial and residential sales of Delta UV ultraviolet systems and controllers in the eastern half of the US including Florida, the Mid-Atlantic, the Northeast and Midwest. Meet the New Faces at S.R. SmithGreg Hollman has joined S.R. Smith as Southeast Regional Sales Manager. Hollman, whose career spans more than 20 years of pool industry management experience,  will be responsible for driving S.R. Smith’s commercial, accessibility and residential product sales forward and promoting S.R. Smith brand awareness among distributors and dealers.  

In addition, Tonya Mathias has been promoted to the position of S.R. Smith Dodge Specialist. She will join the company’s commercial sales team in an effort to analyze commercial project opportunities and support the bidding process. Mathias, an S.R. Smith employee for 10 years, was most recently a member of the customer service team specializing in commercial project quotes, including starting blocks.
