The pool and spa industry took Las Vegas by storm last week at the PSP Expo, with thousands walking the aisles, taking in industry education, networking and, of course, having fun along the way. (Which is never hard to come by in Las Vegas, especially when the first day of the show falls on Halloween.) Below you’ll find just a few highlights from the show floor and beyond.

Genesis Stakeholders Psp

On Tuesday night, Genesis welcomed members and sponsors to its annual Stakeholders’ Reception. During a brief presentation, new qualifying members of the Society for Watershape Designers were welcomed with inspiring remarks from Genesis co-founder Brian Van Bower.

Million Dollar Winner

Las Vegas pool designer Tanr Ross took home the top honors in the first-ever Million Dollar Pool Design Challenge. The innovative awards program drew more than 50 entries from professionals as well as university students. The five finalists presented their designs Wednesday morning before the show opened. Ross, who took home a $5,000 prize, said his design was the product of his efforts to always “understand the needs of the client.”

640 Welcome Party

The Welcome Party for this year’s PSP Expo was held at the Aquarium Technology Manufacturing facility located near the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. The well-attended event featured a tour of the plant, complimentary food, extensive Halloween decorations and hundreds of enthusiastic attendees.

Waves

Members of the WAVE Young Professionals Network mingled at Mandalay Bay’s Border Grill. If you couldn’t make it, plans are already underway for a seminar event in January at The Pool & Spa show in Atlantic City, N.J., featuring DIY’s “Pool Kings.” More details will be released later this month.

Structure Studios

Structure Studios’ Ross Horwitz offers a demonstration of the company’s Vip3D software during the early hours of the show on opening day. It was one of many live show floor presentations that took place throughout the Expo.

8827 1 Superior Pools Award

For the second year in a row, Superior Pools of Southwest Florida (Port Charlotte) took home the coveted Fan Favorite award. According to the Superior team, the design process for this project was a bit unusual in that everything was designed around a Bobé fire bowl — which is centered on the side of the pool and perfectly framed in the kitchen window, making it possible for the homeowners to enjoy their poolscape both in and out of the house.

Pleatco Copy

Pleatco celebrated this year’s class of Perfect Pool Guy and Gal winners in a ceremony on the show floor. Andrea Nannini (Port Saint Lucie, Fla.) and Dick Abare (Tampa, Fla.) were named 2018’s Pleatco Perfect Pool Guy and Gal; other winners included AQUA Contributor Steve Goodale (2018 Industry Leadership Award), Chris Richards (2018 Big Heart Award), Eric Honeyman (2018 Community Leader Award), Libby McKennon (2018 Customer Service Award) and Lamar Jeantinoble (2018 Future Leadership Award).

Ikon Spa Copy

Viking Spas partnered with Vortex Spas to bring an exciting new model to North America: the IKON. The spa was designed by architect Jorgen Andersen, who sought to create a portable spa that marries architecture and design and could stand alone as a focal point of the patioscape.
