Yesterday, May 1, marked the beginning of National Water Safety Month. Celebrated throughout the month of May, National Water Safety Month is a joint effort by the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP), National Recreation & Park Association (NRPA), American Red Cross and World Waterpark Association (WWA), alongside several other participants, to reinforce the importance of safe swimming practices in the United States.

Aquatics professionals around the nation are encouraged to spread the word about water safety through educational programs, National Water Safety Month-themed events, special promotions and the distribution of safety brochures and materials.

Helpful ideas on how to get involved are available on the National Water Safety Month website, NationalWaterSafetyMonth.org. Organizations can also find information to share on National Water Safety Monthโ€™s Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr pages.

"The safe, responsible use of swimming pools, hot tubs and other recreational water facilities will always be a priority," APSP President and CEO Bill Weber said." From companies that build and service pools and hot tubs, to the millions of adults and children who enjoy the fun benefits that recreational water provides, National Water Safety Month focuses on the importance of water safety for all."
