Winter is peak show season for industry pros, and one of the biggest shows of the year is near at hand: The Pool & Spa Show in Atlantic City. The show, organized by the Northeast Spa and Pool Association, is expected to be as exciting as ever, with more than 100 seminars, 400+ exhibitors and 100,000 square feet of exhibit space — so be sure to pack some comfortable shoes, because you’ll be doing a lot of walking.
The Pool & Spa Show has impressed attendees in recent years with its dedication to interactive learning, and they can expect more of the same this year. The Wall, a show highlight, is returning and bigger than ever at 2,500 square feet. This year’s exhibits will focus on automation innovations, shotcrete application, heater repairs, tile repairs and lighting design.
The seminar schedule is designed to include something for everyone, from part-time retail employee to veteran pool builder. Just a few highlights include “Shotcrete Uncovered,” “Ultimate Pool Care for the Next Decade” and “The Woes of Pool Tile: What Went Wrong?”
The APSP Wave Young Professionals Network is hosting a seminar that addresses a common-yet-sometimes-tricky career path: being part of a family-owned business. Hosted by Kyle and Justin Peek of DIY Network’s “Pool Kings,” the seminar will offer strategies and advice on how to successfully run a family-run enterprise, from two people who are doing it themselves. It will take place Tuesday, Jan. 29, at 4 p.m.

There’s plenty to do away from the convention center, too. Make sure you’re in town the night before the show so you can catch the Welcome Party, which returns to the Saloon Bar at the Wild Wild West (Bally’s Casino). The event features live music, food, beer pong and a mechanical bull — just get your tickets early, as they tend to sell out. And on Wednesday, Jan. 30, NESPA is hosting a celebration to honor the builders who won in the Outstanding Achievement Awards competition.
