New Year, New Acquisition
Swimways, a leader in leisure products in the pool and spa industry, announced that it is acquiring Spongex — which produces, Aquaria a high-end line of aquatic leisure products — from Nomaco Inc. The acquisition includes the Spongex manufacturing plant in Tarboro, N.C., and its 45 employees.
Known for its Aqua Cell foam technology, an exclusive closed-cell foam molding process made in the USA, Spongex produces high-quality, comfortable, long-lasting floats, loungers and luxury noodle-shaped floats. According to Swimways, the addition of the Spongex its portfolio will enhance the company’s popular collection of pool floats.
“We are very excited to welcome the team from Spongex to the Swimways family,” says David Arias, president of Swimways. “We anticipate that this excitement will resonate with our retailers, as well as consumers, as we gear up to bring innovation to the high performance Aqua Cell manufacturing technology.”
While the changeover to Swimways’ leadership began on January 1, 2014, the acquisition will not be noticeable in retail stores until 2015 when Spongex products will be distributed under the SwimWays brand. Currently, Spongex products are sold at Sam’s Club, Leslie’s, Frontgate and other specialty pool retailers nationwide.
BioGuard and Dealers Join Together to Raise $75,000 in 2013 for BioGuard Splash for CF
Wrapping up its sixth year raising funds for local hospitals, BioGuard Splash for CF has been a resounding success in the 2013 season, the company says. BioGuard dealers across the country held events and in-store promotions to raise money for the cause, adding over $28,000 to this year's grand total of $75,000 donated to support the fight against cystic fibrosis and provide treatment and assistance to CF patients in their communities.
BioGuard has partnered with Emily Schreiber’s Laps for CF Foundation to make a difference in the lives of CF patients, raising well over $500,000 since the program began. Funds from BioGuard Splash for CF are used to purchase games and entertainment, hotel stays for families, medical equipment and many other needs. The company donates a percentage of sales of sanitizer products, in addition to what dealers raise individually.
Schreiber has CF and knows what it is like to spend time in the hospital. Over the years she has raised money to dramatically improve the CF Care Center in Birmingham, her hometown.
