Have a super-talented service tech on your team? Someone who comes to work each day ready for a challenge, always goes the extra mile and does so with a smile?
If so, keep reading. Pleatco and longtime co-sponsor Genesis are on the hunt for the best of the best pool and spa service technicians across the country and beyond in the annual Pleatco Perfect Pool Guy and Gal contest.
The highlight of this year's contest is the addition of the National Swimming Pool Foundation as a co-sponsor. NSPF will award its new Advanced Service Technician Certification Course to each winner — and every finalist — which raises the stakes of the contest to new heights. (That's an $1,100 value, we might add.)
“We fortunate to be the new co-sponsor of this wonderful contest...We recognize the crucial role every pool service technician plays, we are honored to celebrate them, and we are pleased to offer our new AST online course as amajor prize for each and every finalist to nurture continued growth,” says Thomas Lachocki, CEO of NSPF.
Now in its ninth year, the competition has only grown tougher with time — last year's contest saw more than 250 contestants who were whittled down to two winners: Jamie Gaumond of ValleySpas Inc. (Sevierville, Tenn.) and John Oldfield of Oldfield Inc (Gilroy, Calif.)RELATED: Meet the 2015 Pleatco Perfect Pool Gal

“Over the nine years that Pleatco has run this contest, we’ve learned that being a professional pool or spa service technician is more than a job…it’s a passion. Many homeowners treat their service guy or gal like family; it’s a special relationship," says Pleatco CEO Howard Smith. "A pool or spa is an integral part of a home – a way to relax – and it’s a place for a family to share time together. Homeowners trust their service professional to keep their 'backyard-oasis' safe. The relationship with the homeowner is much deeper than that of the mailman or local handyman in most cases. Essentially, the Perfect PoolGuy and Gal are the unsung heroes of the neighborhood."
This year’s Perfect Pool Guy and Perfect Pool Gal will each receive airfare and hotel accommodations for two to November's PSP Expo in New Orleans. More importantly, the winners are invited to attend the Genesis Basic Pool Construction Course at the Expo free of charge — a $5,000 value.
“The service industry is extremely important when it comes to helping owners fully enjoy and appreciate their pools," says Brian Van Bower, Genesis ambassador and co-founder. “Skip Phillips and I started our careers in pool service and it has always been near and dear to our hearts. We are proud to help honor our hard working service professionals through the Pleatco contest!”
In addition, the winners will receive access to NSPF's AST Certification Course, be honored at high profile awards ceremony, attend formal gala dinner, become the faces of nationwide advertising campaign and win thousands of dollars of free Pleatco products.
“This year’s theme is, 'Put your PoolGuy/Gal to the test!'” says Pleatco’s CMO, Battista Remati. “We are looking forward to an amazing contest and urge everyone, even if they have entered in previous years, to nominate either themselves or a colleague and reward them with the recognition they so duly deserve."
The contest is now open and all entries are accepted online at Pleatco.com.
The Pool & Hot Tub Alliance has named Sabeena Hickman as the organization's new president, chief executive officer and staff liaison to the board of directors. Hickman, who most recently served as the CEO of the National Association of Landscape Professionals, brings 20 years of association experience to her new role. She will start September 3. Lawrence Caniglia, current president and CEO, will continue in an advisory role to aid in the transition.

Dear Advice for the Lovelorn:
I'm a 20-something backyard swimming pool who is, shall we say, starting to show her age. My plaster etches. My tiles are loose. And I can't cope with my coping anymore. I would love to get a makeover, but I'm afraid the other pools in the neighborhood will find out. What can I do? —Brokenhearted in the Backyard
