In Commemoration: Monica Ransom

Monica 0615 300x300

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of our good friend and co-worker Monica Ransom, after a short bout with brain cancer, in Long Beach on June 4th. Monica was an important part of the AQUA Show staff for 15 years from 1992 until its sale in 2006.

Monica started with AQUA in 1990, and when the AQUA Show began in 1992, she was instrumental in running the California office. After the sale of the Show, Monica stayed on in a part-time capacity until the recent onset of her illness working on special projects for Athletic Business, a sister publication of AQUA.

Monica graduated from Sophie Newcomb College, part of Tulane University in New Orleans, in the mid-sixties where she majored in foreign languages. She was fluent in French, Italian and Spanish, which was especially helpful in dealing with international attendees at the AQUA Show, where she took care of registration for attendees and exhibitors.

Her relaxed demeanor in a sometimes tense trade show environment was one of her best qualities, said friend and co-worker Stan Chambers. "She had many good friends in our Industry both on the supplier and dealer level, and she always made a positive impact on the people she came in contact with. Monica was always a loyal friend as well and that easy friendship that we had will always be missed."

Monica was a long time resident of Huntington Beach, California and is survived by her son James, an LAPD police officer, and her sister Anna Maria of Sacramento.
