Navy Blue Lagoon

The homeowner wanted his pool to look like a lagoon, so Phil Della Pietro, Sr., owner of Pool & Spa Doctor in Wall, N.J., suggested a Boomerang pool by Cardinal Systems with a black liner. "I modified the radiuses in the pool a little and had Cardinal add some benches," says Pietro. "But for what he wanted, this pool was the perfect fit.

"And Cardinal does a phenomenal job for me when I design something like that," adds Della Pietro. "They actually put it together first at the shop before they send it to me, so I know when it gets to the job, everything will bolt together."

The 8-foot-tall real-rock waterfall that flows into the pool enhances the lagoon motif and serves as the focal point of the pool area. There's also a bench underneath that waterfall, says Della Pietro, so you can sit and experience the falls right in front of you.

The homeowner chose blue flagstone for the deck after Pool & Spa Doctor showed him some samples, and that "definitely mixes well" with the liner, says Della Pietro. "The look is outstanding."

The most noteworthy part of the construction process was that it was problem-free. The backyard is ideal — it's large and flat. And they didn't even have to truck out the excavated dirt — it was used to help position the boulders.
