The Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP) announces the new American National Standards Institute (ANSI)/APSP/International Code Council (ICC)-6 2013 Standard for Residential Portable Spas and Swim Spas.
The standard is in synch with UL 1563 standard on Portable Electric Spas and the 2012 International Pool and Spa Code (ISPSC), and also covers additional requirements not found in those codes such as stair and step construction requirements.
“ANSI/APSP/ICC-6 2013 provides the parameters for state-of-the-art portable hot tubs complete with the latest fun and safety features,” said APSP Senior Director, Technical & Standards Carvin DiGiovanni. “It’s a must-have for all manufacturers and distributors of factory built residential portable spas and swim spas who want to instill consumer confidence in purchasing a quality product.”
The standard covers factory built residential portable (self contained) spas or swim spas that are used for bathing and are operated by an owner. This standard does not cover non-self-contained spas, public spas, public swim spas or permanently installed residential spas, or swim spas.
“APSP continues to demonstrate leadership in the portable hot tub industry through ANSI/APSP/ICC-6 2013,” DiGiovanni said. “It’s all about protecting the consumer and strengthening the manufacturer and distributor.”
